Can You Use NDIS Funding for a Stroller Wagon?

For families caring for a child with a disability, mobility solutions like stroller wagons can be essential to supporting daily life, community access, and inclusive participation. While the NDIS doesn’t automatically cover items like strollers or prams, in some cases, they can be funded if they meet the criteria of reasonable and necessary supports.

At $1499, Pronto falls under the NDIS Low Cost Assistive Technology price cap, making it potentially eligible for funding provided it supports the participant’s functional needs and is clinically justified through appropriate documentation.

When Could a Pram Wagon Be NDIS-Funded?

NDIS funding decisions are always case-by-case. However, families and allied health professionals have successfully obtained funding for pram wagons when they serve a clear purpose in the participant’s care, safety, or mobility.

Here are some of the ways stroller wagons, like Pronto, have been shown to support children with disability.

Supports Functional Mobility

For children with limited mobility, fatigue, or low endurance, a pram wagon can assist in accessing the community more comfortably. Whether it’s school drop-offs, therapy sessions, or weekend outings, having a secure place to rest can make a huge difference.

Encourages Inclusion and Participation

The ability to join in family outings, participate in social settings, and explore outdoor environments is vital for childhood development. A stroller wagon promotes these experiences while offering the flexibility and safety that many children with disability require.

Improves Sensory Regulation

The enclosed, secure space of Pronto can support children with sensory sensitivities or behavioural challenges, particularly with use of our full enclosed shades. It may reduce overstimulation, ease transitions, and offer a predictable and calming environment during outings especially helpful for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Reduces Fatigue and Prevents Overexertion

Long walks or busy environments can be overwhelming for some children. A wagon offers a built-in break space without cutting the outing short, helping them remain engaged longer while preventing physical strain.

Enhances Safety

For children with elopement risk, balance challenges, or difficulty managing transitions, the enclosed design of a stroller wagon offers added security and peace of mind for carers.

Carries Equipment & Essentials

For children who need medical equipment, sensory tools, or personal care items on-the-go, the extra space in a stroller wagon can help transport everything comfortably, reducing the strain on carers and ensuring the child’s needs are always met.

What You’ll Need to Apply for NDIS Funding

While we’re not NDIS-registered or planners ourselves, we have supported many families in preparing NDIS quotes whom have successfully received funding for their stroller. An occupational therapist (OT) or physiotherapist assessment can assist in explaining the functional benefit of a stroller wagon in everyday life

  • Photos or documentation showing how the product will support the participant’s goals

  • A discussion with your Support Coordinator or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to guide the funding request process

  • A quote or invoice (which we can provide upon request)

The Pronto Stroller is priced at $1499, making it well within the current Assistive Technology Tier 2 limit under the NDIS (as of July 2025). That means no AT assessment form is typically required for approval under $1500 but it's still best to work with your treating therapist or planner for guidance specific to your child.

Need an Invoice for Your NDIS Claim?

If your support team or plan manager requires a quote or invoice just send us an email at hello@prontostroller.com.au and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

We’re happy to support the documentation process to make your application as smooth as possible.

The NDIS exists to fund supports that empower people with disability to live full and connected lives. While not every family will receive funding for a stroller, with the right referrals and supporting documentation, it’s absolutely possible and can make a meaningful difference.

Having children on the NDIS, we completely understand the process and are here to support you as best we can.

If you’re unsure where to start, speak to your therapist or plan manager about how a stroller wagon like Pronto might help meet your child’s goals.
